What Size Pilot Do I Need and How To Position It
With all of the different manufactured kits and arfs, let alone scratch-built planes, the scale size of a pilot is just a good starting point to decide which pilot is right for your plane. Measuring the width and height of your cockpit and determining how much of the pilot needs to be seen should be taken into consideration. Most pilots, if mounted the way that they come from the manufacturer, will put the pilot too high in the cockpit. This will take away from the realism. It is common to cut a pilot down so that only the parts of the pilot can be seen to mimic what you would see of a real pilot in a real plane. Pilots should be mounted sitting upright and not leaning back, with the head slightly angled. If you mount the pilot leaning back and facing straight ahead, it will not look nearly as realistic as it could. For this reason, our full-body pilots, if at all possible, are left unattached at the waist so that you can position the pilot to best fit your needs. I will do everything possible to help you decide which pilot will fit your plane. I am more than happy to email back and forth with information and measurements or spend time on the phone to help you make the right choice. If you would like more detailed measurements than what my website offers, please feel free to inquire. A good way to help make the right decision is to make a cardboard cutout of the silhouette of the pilot with the measurements that I will provide you then place this in the cockpit of your plane. Stand back and with a little imagination, you can decide whether or not the pilot will be the correct scale for your plane.
